Frankenstein: Conflict Over Power
In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein had a conflict with himself over power. The definition of power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way. Victor really wanted to create life and achieve the goal that no one had ever done before. This obsession of wanting this power ultimately ruined his life and led to his death.
Victor wanted to reiterate his power in the family circle by creating a creature from raw, uninhibited nature and a spark of electricity. Victor felt that he got trapped in a family circle and could not express himself and enjoy life. A quote from a movie says, “With great power comes great responsibility” which perfectly describes this moment for Victor. He thought that creating the monster would bring him power, which it did, but what he did not see was the consequences of creating the monster. Once he realized he had to care for and look after the monster, he ran away hoping to never see the monster again. Once the monster understood what happened, he wanted to get revenge on Victor by tormenting his family. The monster kills the close family members to Victor which slowly diminishes the power that Victor gained. As a result of these actions, the monster gains a sense of power, which ironically leads him to Victor. The monster senses his power and demands that Victor make him a second girl monster for him. Victor agrees on the condition that the monsters leave the country. Victor decides to get married and scrap the second monster which angers the monster. He seeks revenge and kills Victor’s new wife, Elizabeth. All the power that Victor had held was now at its smallest and was taken over by the monster. Victor wanted to restore his power and seek revenge. He chased after the monster but ended up dying on his
