Victor Caminata fiance’s home was lost due to a wooden stove that was in the basement of the home, and the incident was ruled an accidental chimney fire, where the family was awarded $273,000 in damages. Caminata and his fiance split just after the incident and she told police that the two had a fight the night before the fire occurred. After her statement, a fire investigator re-examined the evidence and concluded that the fire had multiple, unconnected origins and numerous ignition points, some of which seemed to have been started with a blowtorch. Caminata was arrested in 2008, and went to trial in 2009, was convicted of arson and was sentenced to 9-40 years in prison. He spent 5 years in prison.
