Slavery has existed for a majority of human history. It has existed in society because it was either economically viable or because a group of people where dehumanized. When slavery happens or any other human wrong, we see the person who has been wronged as a victim. It is up to them to change that by using agency, taking action in their situation. Agency and victimhood coexist in which one can not exist without the other. Agency, however, is seen as a more progressive approach when compared to the passivity of victimhood. When a victim, in this case an enslaved human being, decides to break the passivity and become an agent, they empower themselves and those who are going through a similar thing.
