Actually, there are many victims in the novel, but the main victim that launched the chain of events that take place in the story is the murdered Jacque Sauniére ,the curator of the louvre and Sophie's grandfather, who was killed by Silace in the opening chapter. "Jacques Saunière was considered the premiere goddess iconographer on earth. Not only did Saunière have a personal passion for relics relating to fertility, goddess cults, Wicca, and the sacred feminine, but during his twenty-year tenure as curator, Saunière had helped the Louvre amass the largest collection of goddess art on earth..."(20).
