Victim Of A Single Story Essay

I have been the victim of a particular single story for most of my life, throughout different scenarios in contrast to different kinds of people. The single story consisting of my scars and post-surgery work that has afflicted me after a traumatic car accident I was involved in when I was 7 years old in 1999 that nearly stole my life from me. Surgery is a very common part of life for those who have been through physically traumatic events in their lives. However, there are different stories to each individual’s events behind their scars. My story normally revolves around others looking at me differently, or treating me differently as if I were a different kind species of their own. I am not viewed upon as a standard human being but as a story with complicated and difficult journeys. My story of as a victim of the single story normally revolves around a person’s question or thought of “I wonder where his scars came from”. I have scars near both sides my temples from brain surgery, I endured while in a comatose state. My face was damaged as well, in particular one of my eyes is smaller than the other. My left cheek muscles do not work properly, which causes my smile to look crooked. Lastly, I long lasting effects of memory loss due to my traumatic brain injury. Different single …show more content…
Different people react differently and treat others differently depending on their personality, gender, relationship to the person, ways of living as well as how they were brought. Building my self-esteem helped me overcome these issues. Most people try to get to know me before assuming they know where my scars came from which also generates self-confidence. I’ve had friends all together not even ask me because they cared about my feelings. Single stories are truly a danger but knowing the history of communities or individual’s shines so much light on our ignorance. Giving us many chances to learn and
