Homosexual portrayals have been present on Philippine television long before the 2000’s. The first ever gay Filipino movie, which is Jack and Jill, starring Dolphy and Lolita Rodriguez was released in the year 1954. This movie has not only revolutionized the Philippine television, but it also opened the doors for homosexuals to be seen on television. From then on, homosexuals have been seen quite often on Philippine television. One of the most popular and in demand homosexual actor in the industry today is Jose Marie Borja Viceral or also known as Vice Ganda. “In recent years, Vice Ganda has risen to be a phenomenon known nationwide; everyone of all ages at some point would have heard of the infamous "Petrang Kabayo" and "Benjamin Santos." her "sharp, witty" one-liners earned him a spot in Punchline and The Library, and eventually her name "Vice Ganda," which was taken from her last name Viceral (Montano, 1).” In her 17 years of working with ABS-CBN and Star Cinemas, he has starred in seven blockbuster movies wherein he played nine unique characters with different personalities.
