Evaluation: A Veterinary Technician Career
For many years I have struggled with a career choice. I have known for quite some time that I wanted to do something with animals but I wasn’t sure what that was. When I began my freshman year in college I was on the line of whether I wanted to be a full on Veterinarian or get a degree as a Veterinary Technician. Now, with the end of my freshman year approaching, I have decided to be a Veterinary Technician. Although some believe that a career as a Veterinarian is better, I believe a career as a Veterinary Technician is good because salaries are decent, it doesn’t require as much schooling, and helping animals is very satisfying to animal lovers like

There are tons more programs for veterinary technicians than there are for veterinarians. There is only one veterinary medical school in the state of Georgia, and I don’t want to have to attend school in Athens. On the other hand, there are more than 150 accredited programs for veterinary technicians in the United States. There is also the option of distance online learning. Getting a degree as a veterinary technician is much more affordable than veterinary medical schooling, making it easier to obtain.

This does not mean that anyone can do the job and qualifications are minimal by any means. All veterinary technicians are required to pass the National Veterinary Technicians Examination to complete the program and receive a license to practice. Continued education is also required throughout a career as a veterinary technician because technology is constantly changing.

Although salary and required schooling are important factors in my career choice, they are not the main reason I want to become a veterinary technician. I have always loved animals and have had a natural ability to work with them. A career as a veterinary technician would be very satisfying for me because I would be helping animals. There will always be some sad moments and animals that must be put down, but saving the ones that I can will make it all worthwhile. As a
