Veterinary Personal Statement

The three most amazing things in this world to me are thrilling feelings, being a part of a team, and learning something new every day so that I may constantly expand my knowledge. At ten years old, every weekend I would race down the stairs at seven o’clock in the morning because I knew that an Animal Planet “Emergency Vets” marathon would be waiting for me. I would watch one episode after another. To me they were like eating popcorn; you simply cannot stop once you’ve started! Every episode brought along with it excitement, new situations, and always new animals that needed fixing. “Emergency Vets” was ultimately the show that sparked my interest in the vast world of veterinary medicine, and gave me that thrilling feeling that I thrive on. My team and I went through all the highs and lows, wins and losses, tough practices and training sessions; but at the end of the day, we had each other and overcame remarkable feats, much like in a veterinary hospital. In high school I began planning for my future. I knew that by all means I wanted to go to veterinary school. Therefore, I planned my class schedule accordingly with the hopes that I could get into a good college with a Zoology major option and pre-veterinary track. I also started to research veterinary schools, and what I would need to do in order to better my chances of getting accepted. Right away I knew I had to go to a college that offered specific classes, and I also had to start gaining veterinary experience as soon as possible. Although I was accepted to many schools for undergraduate studies, I decided to attend Humboldt State University for their amazing science department and Zoology program. I know that everyone thinks that anyone who goes to school in Humboldt becomes a slacker and begins to lack motivation (for obvious reasons), but that was never the case for me. I hit the books hard from the get-go and never got off

Veterinary Professional Practice PART A: Communication and Consultation Skills Consultations tended to be initiated with a friendly, semi- casual greeting. This allowed clients to feel at ease with the veterinarian, as it would come across as less intimidating for them than being addressed in an overly rigid, formal manner. It is a way to establish a rapport with the client early on, and indicates that the consultation has a more relationship focused nature as opposed to a slightly condescending paternalistic approach. This demonstrates to the clients from the beginning that they will be respected and their concerns heard (R. Shaw, 2006).…

By age fourteen, I found myself obsessed with the channel Animal Planet. When I came home from school, all I did was view the surgical procedures and watch the clinical interactions. I was mesmerized with the idea that you could save the life of an animal and relieve the pain of an owner. Although, not every patient and owner has the same happy ending, I understand as long as you did everything possible to provide the best outcome, you are already a hero for trying. At age eighteen…

Animals have always been my passion and they live in the environment that humans are currently destroying. If efforts are not taken now, many animals will die and some species will go extinct. As a veterinarian, you take an oath to protect the welfare of animals, including the environment that houses them. When I first thought about my field of specialty, I had always thought that the veterinarians were the ones who took care of dogs and cats. Growing up in a suburban area where there wasn’t any farm related animals, it never occurred to me that they needed healthcare too.…

I am interested in pursuing Animal Science because animals have always been a big part of my life; I grew up with my grandfather, who had a farm away from home that he tended to every day. Once a week, when I tagged along, he would wake me at 8am sharp and we would head to the farm in his truck. My primary job was to help look after the animals; I cleaned the chicken coops, fed the pigs, brought the cows hay. This generated my passion for animals; the more I cared for them, the more they seemed to trust me, which was a gratifying feeling.…
