Veterans Sacrifice

Decent Essays
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him,” said G.K. Chesterton. A love for their country is why my veterans serve. It never really sunk into me how much veterans sacrifice for us. I think that we need to show as much respect to people that have served in the military forces to make us be able to be free. Or be able to pursue whatever we would like to.

Every veteran that has served or is serving has been brave and loyal. Even though some people who were drafted were scared but, they still were brave and served. I have finally started to think about the conditions that they were going through while fighting. Say that they got a terrible injury. They kept fighting because they wanted the love the people back home to be free and peaceful. My grandpa, my uncle, and my cousin have all served in the military. Veterans have given me the chance to live the way that I want to live. I got to choose where I wanted to live because of the freedom that I have. I am allowed to believe what I want to believe. Whenever my time comes, I will be able to work almost any job that I want. If it was not for these brave men and women then, I might not be sitting in class typing this essay.

There is a story where it describes the soldiers limitations through everyday but does everything with enthusiasm. The armed forces are true heroic heros. They don't do it for fame or to be thanked everyday for serving. They do it for our freedom and for theirs. Furthermore the Armed Forces are one of my biggest heros I know of because they sign up knowing they could die but are willing to for our…

I wondered if he felt that he was important, but I didn’t have to wonder if he felt that other veterans were important. Any time he sees another soldier, it does not matter where we are, he will walk up and thank them for their service. He does this because he understands their importance and what it feels like to be unappreciated. When he returned from Vietnam, he was spit on and had things, such as glass bottles, thrown at him. Despite the things he and his unit did, like saving forty men from a POW camp, people still hated him.…

How do we keep Lincoln’s promise to our veterans and their families? “Land of the free and home of the brave.” This very line in our National Anthem describes our sought after relationship with our veterans. If we did not win this war we wouldn’t have won our independence and we wouldn’t be the same country we are today. If we didn’t have these veterans we would have lost the Civil war and we would still have slaves and a lot of famous people in history wouldn’t exist and we would still have racism. Veterans show us how to respect the people we see every day. They teach us to not give up till we have success and achieve our goals. Veterans have risked their lives for us and that we should be grateful for.…

Every year we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th. Veterans Day is a day where we honor the men and women, dead or alive who served in the military. There are four different branches of the military; Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines, and each branch plays a unique role in our country. When I discovered the benefits of the military, like free college after 36 months, or amazing Medicare, I thought, “I should join the military!” When I hear the word military, the first thing that comes to my mind is “justice”.…

Nobody from my family that I know of fought in the war, but that does not mean that I shouldn’t remember the others that fought and died. A lot of people who fought in the war were brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers, and sons and daughters and they were willing to put their own lives at risk not just for their family, but for everyone's. Their neighbor, your great-great-great-grandmother, the little boy that lived down the street, they fought for everyone. They were more than just soldiers.
