The VA tends to take a long time to get service out to veterans. “According to VA figures dated April 20, the number of claims pending for more than 125 days was 613,469, while the total number of pension and entitlement claims was 886,345.” (Konkel 1). “Veterans advocates say the benefits administration frequently makes errors while handling disability claims, including overlooking VA medical records that could prove a veteran’s eligibility for help” (Evans 1). This proves that the VA does not always get it right. They often will not take the time to go over things thoroughly in order to help veterans out which drives people away from getting help.
Meanwhile billions of dollars are being spent to help veterans with PTSD there is little report on the effectiveness of these services. "Both departments lack a coordinated, consistent, well-developed, evidence-based system of treatment for PTSD," (Dr. Sandro Galea 1) With little to no report on the effectiveness of these services it is difficult for one to determine which service is actually worth funding for and which aren’t.
