Veterans Leadership Program operates programs and delivers services to veterans in 18 counties (Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Fayette, Fulton, Greene, Huntingdon, Indiana, Lawrence, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland). By participating in the economic impact study, VLP hopes to effectively coalesce organizational output and performance into quantitative figures which can be clearly and articulately communicated to stakeholders, customers, and members of the community. At VLP, we believe that veterans need a hand up, not a hand out. Mainstream media presents the image of today’s veterans a shell of their former selves, often portrayed to be a continual burden on society, drawing from our region much more than they take. We know this is not the case. The veterans that we serve not only go on to be self-sufficient, but are successfully reintegrated into our communities, becoming wage earners, tax payers, and community leaders. While qualitative narratives of empowered Veterans are helpful in changing the conversation, empirical evidence is irrefutable. Veterans Leadership Program partners with DOL in order to administer the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) as well as for Stand Down Pittsburgh, an annual “At-Risk” Veterans resource fair. Stand Down Pittsburgh 2015 will be held at Stage AE on September 26th, and is sponsored by Peoples Natural Gas, and in conjunction with VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Allegheny County Department of Human Service, Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard, and Shepherd’s Heart
