Veterans deserve our nation’s respect. Veterans choose to fight for the country and the freedom it stands for. They deserve the utmost respect because they have risked their lives to fight for this country. Veterans risk their lives in order to protect this country, they leave their loved ones behind, and they choose to fight for the country above everything else. Veterans choose to fight for this country over anything else. They could have chosen anything else, but instead they chose to join the military. They do not join for the money, rather they join for personal reasons. A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.…

America is the land of the free, because of the brave. Americans enjoy many freedoms because of the democracy our ancestors fought very hard to establish. Freedom summarizes what being an American is about, but it’s not what an American is. An American is someone who is brave enough to do something even though the punishment is severe, someone who sees opportunity and stops at nothing to achieve it, and someone who doesn’t take the easy way out. Bravery is part of the definition of an American.…

For years there have been soldiers who have been injured in the line of battle while defending our country. Some have been injured to a point where they do not have the ability to walk or have lost limbs in the line of duty. Despite the benefits veterans are currently eligible for and receiving, the Veteran’s Administration should be doing more for veterans. For some veterans it takes them several months just to get checked up at the VA. “Hundreds of veterans have waited months for medical attention at the VA.…

Veterans are a group of people that write a blank check totaling their life to the government. They fight to defend our country and every American citizen. Then when their service is done they come home to be unnerved and underappreciated. Veterans are: mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, and friends. The main thing we should do is make them known to others, so they know that we are there for them and let them know their service is more than appreciated, and we should let them know that and not let them be forgotten.…

Veterans are not getting the care that they need. To begin, veterans in cities have to wait a long period of time to get the appointment that they need. Individuals who use VA Regional office can wait up to twelve to eighteen before getting an appointment ("introduction to do Veterans receive adequate health care"1). This is too long of a wait period for some because, some of the veterans have life threatening injuries compared to the common cold. Also, many veterans are not receiving any service.…

The Effects of War on Veterans in Afghanistan and Iraq More than half of the 2.6 million Americans dispatched to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq struggle with physical or mental health problems and often begin to feel disconnected from civilian life, deriving from deployment. As stated in the article “After the Wars: A legacy of pain and pride”, written by Rajiv Chandrasekaran and published by The Washington Post. The conditions of being deployed and serving for our country can conclude in widespread consequences within soldiers in which if no help is provided, could become permanently detrimental. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), and an increase in suicides are some of…

What was started in 1636 in Plymouth has grown to be larger than anyone could have imagined. Veterans today are still compensated for their disabilities, they get education funding to use and job training to accommodate any disabilities they may have, home loans and life insurance options. The list of benefits that come from being a vet are extensive and it may be time we look to the private sector to assist or take the place of the Veterans Administration. While the history and care to our Nations Veterans from the VA is long and impressive, it has been decades since they have honored their commitment properly. A new era of war and enemies has come knocking and the youth of this country has stepped forward to answer.…
