Veterans Day Patriotism

What is an American? Well there’s multiple answers to that question, but the one answer that comes up to everyone's mind when asked is someone who was born in America or it's someone who is free. It's the most logical yet simple answer, but there's more to it. An American is not only someone who was born in America, it’s someone who is united, free and devoted to their country. In other words an American who shows their patriotism to their no matter who they are. As citizens of the united states we pledge allegiance to flag to show our patriotism and respect towards our the flag and country whether in school or at a game. The word patriotism is an extended version of patriot which means someone who supports their country and is prepared to defend it. A patriotic person is also proud of being a citizen that they love. In the essay “ Veterans Day: NEVER FORGET THEIR DUTY” the author writes about a fellow inmate name Mike Christian who shows his patriotism during the Vietnam war. Everyone is united by something, but what makes Americans stand out is the devotion they have for America and its people. In the poem “ I hear America Singing” by Walt Whitman writes about how people are united by a song that the workers sing. It defines an American because the song that “America is singing” represents the people. For instance Whitman states “ I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear...” ( Walt Whitman) shows the unity between the people who make America.
