A career as a Veterinary Technician also known as a Vet Tech is much more than playing with puppies or kittens. A lot of responsibilities goes into becoming a Vet Tech. There are many things to consider about the career before going into it. Things to consider are the schooling that it takes, the responsibilities that they carry, and the amount of work that they actually do. A Vet Tech is not just someone who plays with animals for pay. It is much more then that. It is someone who is willing to put in the time and effort to care for these animals no matter the condition of the animal and still be professional.

To help the veterinarians run their clinic and provide necessary care, vet techs need to have proper training. This is crucial to keeping the animals safe. Schooling is one way to get the training that is needed to obtain the knowledge of how to care for the animals properly. Being a Vet Tech does not limit you to clinics. You could work in laboratories, an emergency animal hospital, zoos, and even your local animal shelter. Being a vet tech can be emotionally and physically exhausting. It can be emotionally exhausting due to seeing the abuse, sick, injured, and unwanted animals. When it comes to physically draining, there can be a lot of responsibilities such as, long hours, heavy lifting, being on your feet for long periods of time, and constantly running from place to place to meet the demands of your job. Different places of employment have different hours for you to work. Some places are open 24 hours a day, holidays, and weekends. This means you may have to work during these times. For a Vet Tech the annual average wage a year was $31,070 as of May 2014
