“A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” and “The Metamorphosis” shows the coexistence of cruelty and compassion towards those who are weak and different. In “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” we see that after Elisenda and Pelayo find an old man with enormous wings on his back, they decide to put him on a chicken coop rather than just killing him. Pelayo and Alisenda make a profit of this old man where strangers gazed at him. By the time the old man is finally able to fly, Elisenda, realizes that it is the old man’s extreme patience with the villagers that changes her family’s lives for good.
