Vertical Jump Reach Test

Improved Essays
The vertical jump reach test is an objective functional test used by coaches, clinicians and strength and conditioning professionals (Waggener, Barfield and Sessoms, 2002). A large vertical jump relative to the individual is considered a valuable skill in high performance sports, including basketball, football, athletics and volleyball (Baker, 1996).
Several studies have been performed to compare the methods of measuring vertical jump heights. A study by Isaacs (1998) found a significant difference between measurements from a Vertec and force platform device. Another study by Garcia-Lopez et al. (2005) stated that it is necessary to declare which method is being used when comparing and analysing vertical jump performance.

In our lab I was investigating: Does the height you drop the ball affect how it will bounce? When we were doing this lab person #1 held the meter stick, and person #2 held the bouncy ball when person #3 was ready to record the height the ball bounced person #2 dropped the bouncy ball and told the height the ball was dropped and the height the ball went to. Our materials were 3 people, a meter stick, pencil and paper, and a bouncy ball. As we dropped the bouncy ball from a greater height it bounced about half of the height we dropped the bouncy ball from. For example when we dropped the bouncy ball from twenty centimeters the ball only bounced to 16cm.…

Touch Football is a high intensity sport that requires specific energy system and muscular group training. It uses several energy systems that require targeted training. In order to train specific fitness components a training program needs to be developed by increasing intensity, frequency, varying type and time of training. To achieve results, the training program needs to focus on the fitness components you are aiming to train. The components that will be trained and tested throughout this program are acceleration and muscular strength and endurance.…

On 01-01-2017 at 0025 hours I was dispatched to Kinzer Street and 6th Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident. See accident report 2017-0001T Upon my arrival I made contact with Katie Clark, who was the driver of a 2001 Chrysler Sebring who started stating immediately her friends all told her not to driver. Clark advised me she had drunk a half of fifth of alcohol and that she should not have been driving. While speaking to Clark I could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Clark’s breath and she was crying and slurring her speech and stumbling. I had Clark step to the rear of the vehicle…

Psychology Lab Research Question: Why do older adults show a decrease on postural control? Hypothesis: Older adults with decreased knee or ankle threshold joint position sensation would show decreased postural control. • Threshold joint position is a test of sensory sensitivity used to quantify each subject’s proprioceptive abilities Methods: • 22 women and men, 70 yoa or older • all subjects had threshold joint position testing at ankle (plantar and dorsiflexion) and knee joints (flexion and extension) - Subjects were told to press a stop button the moment they detected movement in the joint - performance was measured in degree of joint rotation that occurred prior to their sensing movement - This data was used to categorize subjects…

Just like in baseball, Exercise Science is expanding in more than one aspect. While baseball is expanding in technology with instant replay, higher quality cameras, and advanced radar guns, Exercise Science is expanding their use of technology with the use of force plates, high speed cameras, reflective markers, and motion analysis to analyze movements of baseball players. Baseball has increased the amount of aspects that can be measured of the game, like batted ball velocity, the value of a player, movement of a pitch and its spin rate, and velocity of any ball thrown on the field. Exercise Science has increased the amount of measurements that can be taken in a wide range of areas, like the mobility of the shoulder, force and momentum produced from the lower body during the pitching motion, angular acceleration and torque of the trunk during the motions of pitching and batting, and even the measurements of muscles, especially those of the rotator cuff, responsible for stability of the shoulder joint. As years go on, technology becomes more advanced, including in baseball and Exercise Science, and the use of that technology becomes more practical, which can then be used to calculate more measurements.…

The female non athletes had an average leap of 29.79078 ± 7.75456. The P value for this graph was 0.3634, which proves that there was not a significant difference between the two groups. The article continued to discuss the importance of training and the relationship between training and a higher leap. Although the experiment was splitting male and females, the importance of training was also proven. “Female athletes had an average leap of 43.71 ± 4.96.”…

2-D VS 3-D Analysis Mechanical work and predicted energy expenditure was also quantified. A secondary purpose was to compare kinematic and kinetic calculations between 2-D and 3-D analyses for both sumo and conventional deadlifts. Two 60-Hz video cameras recorded 12 sumo and 12 conventional style lifters during a national powerlifting championship. Parameters were quantified at barbell liftoff (LO), at the instant the barbell passed the knees (KP), and at lift completion. Unpaired t-tests (P ,0.05) were used to compare all parameters.…

An above-average reach is advantageous in sports such as basketball, boxing, discus throw, fencing, and swimming. For instance, boxer Sonny Liston had a 213 cm (84 in) reach despite being only 184 cm (72.5 in) in height. This unusually long reach allowed him to hit opposing boxers from relatively safe distances where they could not reach him.…
