Vertical And Horizontal Integration In Healthcare

In this class I have learned many things that will improve my critical thinking skills and leadership abilities. This class also reinforced and expanded my knowledge regarding things that I already knew about. I have been in the healthcare field for over 30 years and as this class reinforced it is always changing. I learn something new every day therefore allowing this profession to be one that I remain challenged by and interested in even after 30 years. This class reminded me that everyone is a stakeholder in the healthcare system and every stakeholder brings something different to the field. The healthcare manager not only has to be involved with the medical side of healthcare but also the business side. This can bring about great stress and many ethical issues. I learned about the Baldridge Criteria which I had never heard of before prior to this class. I had heard of vertical and horizontal integration but was not sure exactly what it meant. I now have a better understanding of what vertical and horizontal integration is, why it is occurring and how each affects an organization.
