Vertical Alignment is an educational term that describes teachers from multiple grade levels working together to connect standards to upper and lower grade levels. Although vertical alignment is used to assist teachers in developing curriculum together within other grade levels, struggles between effective communications amongst teachers in order to create a curriculum that will assist students to achieve mastery of the standard. The following articles provide information on how to address the challenge of unprepared teachers.

The article also goes into greater detail about how to begin aligning curriculum within one grade level and also within multiple grade levels, while focusing on mastery and effectiveness.
This article would be classified as a theoretical research review because the article explains theory that is meant to be used to height student achievement. The article is organizational sound and concise due to the subheadings and in depth description of each topic.
This article was written in the late 1990’s, but I still believe that it holds true because of the importance of creating lessons that are meaningful to students while aligning curriculum to assessments and vertically throughout grade levels. Another reason why this article is reliable is because it also stresses the need for lessons created by teachers are to be taught to mastery. In present times, we are teachers are still trying to help our students reach mastery. The article outlines some ways to help our students master lessons and curriculums. One way is to create and align lessons and curriculum along with other teachers in multiple grade
