"The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race” (Stephen Hawking).
Hawking divulges that as we approach the singularity, our own creations will render us evolutionarily obsolete. Our great developments over time are the things that have allowed us to make our own tools, languages and commerce but someday instead of creating new technology our innovations may bring us to our own demise. Science fiction writer Vernor Vinge first popularized the idea of the singularity in his 1993 essay "Technological Singularity." The singularity suggests many ideas but contains the following hypothesis, the invention of artificial intelligence will potentially trigger runaway technological growth. The resulting factor being unfathomable complications and dangers to human …show more content…
The maze is a physical manifestation of the connections one’s brain makes in order to create complex thought processes such as decision making and emotions. Once Deloris finds her way to the center of the maze she begins to hear her own voice rather than her creators programing. This is the transformation from machine to man taking place in which her programed self is dulling and she’s becoming self aware. There are seven life processes or characteristics that scientists use to govern whether something is living or not. These seven processes are movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, and nutrition. Without all seven of these biological functions something cannot be considered living in today’s society. Robots do not and may never meet all seven of these criteria. The robots in “Westworld” are built by exact design they do not grow. Children are also built because the robots themselves are unable to procreate. It is unclear whether or not the robots excrete or take in nutrition, we see them eat and drink liquids but I strongly believe they do not meet these requirements
