Vernon Presley, only seventeen years old, eloped and married Gladys Smith in 1933. Vernon had a variety of odd jobs, such as a farmer, dairy farm worker, and delivery truck driver. Gladys, however, worked at the Tupelo Garment Company. Near the end June 1934, the couple learned Gladys was pregnant with twins. The happy couple then moved into a small house in Tupelo, Missouri built by Vernon. Right before dawn on January 8th, 1935 Gladys gave birth to identical twin boys, Jessie Garon and Elvis Aaron. However, Jessie is born stillborn, which left Elvis as an only child. During childhood years, Elvis Presley grew up with a close family who all lived nearby.
