Vernal pools are wetlands that are being covered by shallow water, during different seasons example from spring to winter. The sizes of vernal pools vary hugely in size, from small lakes to deep to shallow lakes. They are usually found in grasslands in Northeastern and Midwestern states that has a Mediterranean climates. Under the Vernal pools, bedrock or a hard clay soil could be found. That helps the water to be in place. Vernal Pools are also a home for many aquatic, and land animal species. There are approximately 33 plant and animal species present in vernal pools. 20 of them are considered endangered by the federally.
Due to the dramatic changes in the climate, and weather the vernal pools face a lot of changes in its appearance. The water in the pool is mainly from the rain that occurs in spring and winter. However, due to drought some of the vernal pools can be nit filled. One Vernal pool can get filled and emptied more than one time in a single year/season.
