USC’s purchase of Verdugo Hills Hospital Located in the heart of Los Angeles in Southern California lies the home of the USC Trojans. In the year eighteen eighty the city of Los Angeles opened the doors of its first university to a total of fifty three students. USC began its journey in a city just as underdeveloped as the university itself. Since then they have blossomed into a nationally known institution and have graduated hundreds of thousands of students who have gone on to make a huge impact in not only the United States but all over the world. Alumni range from all walks of society such as Astronaut Neil Armstrong, football star O.J. Simpson, academy award winner Clint Eastwood, WWII P.O.W. Being established in the year eighteen eighty five the USC’s Keck School of Medicine is the oldest medical institution in Southern California. Since eighteen eighty the student body and faculty of the university has steadily grown. Beginning with a measly fifty three students, ten professors, a mission, and a city without paved roads or street lights brought doubt that the university would become anything worth talking about. Fast-forwarding to the present, USC now holds a student body of forty-four thousand undergraduate and graduate students with ethnic backgrounds from all over the world. Much like many other distinguished medical institutions, the Keck School of Medicine is “dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and society by promoting health, preventing and curing disease, advancing biomedical research and educating tomorrow’s physicians and scientists”(KeckMed). This specific department has a vision of excellence and settles for nothing less as well as pride their program off their ground breaking discoveries in the medical field, as well as producing the top tier physicians of the next
