“Guest of a Nation “was interesting to me. Reading the short story I found plenty examples of Irony. As the Narrator introduces the characters of the story, you are almost led to believe that the gentlemen are old friends or comrades. The use of Verbal Irony is evident when ‘Chum” was spoken as if it were group of buddies sitting around the poker table. It would be easy for the reader to forget that Belcher and Hawkins were prisoners. Nobles and Bonaparte seem to forget as well and have to be reminded that the day would come that they may have to set aside the friendship to complete their duty as soldiers. When asked what the difference was between ally prisoners of war and Belcher and Hawkins, could not express why he thought it was
