Although the flytrap cannot literally consumer a full human body, I took artistic liberty in exaggerating the flytraps size in order to capture the viewer’s eye and interest the viewer in the flytrap’s actual abilities. I also drew a glow around the flytrap to highlight its abilities to draw in prey. Throughout this sketch, I felt as though I was creating an equal medium between my two original ideas, so I felt as though it was a good final sketch for the piece before transferring it into digital media.
My digital process started with creating an image of a Venus flytrap as the first layer of the digital piece. I took an image of a flytrap from the internet and altered it using the posterization tool on Photoshop. This tool simplified the colors of the flytrap and turned the photo into a more digital-type image rather than a photograph. I, further, used the pen tool to trace over the flytrap and create my own image out of the edited image. I, also, enhanced the coloration of the flytrap throughout this process in order to create a more appealing image. This process was especially aggravating because it was difficult to maintain the form of the flytrap without oversimplifying it.
