Snakes bite several people and when they arrive at the hospital to receive an anti-venom injection, they fail to describe what kind of snake did the biting. Failure of identification may lead to other complications such as coma, paralysis or death. Identification is significant as it helps in knowing how to treat the bite.
The venomous snakes around the world are a third unless you live in Australia, where the percentage is bigger, closer to 65%. In this article we will look at several venomous snakes in the U.S and how to identify them. In the United States of America, there are four different types of venomous snakes, which are rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, coral snakes, and copperheads.
Rattlesnakes: They are easily identified by the rattling sound they make with their tails. When threatened, rattlesnakes shake their tails as a warning for one to back away. In the U.S, rattlesnakes have a larger population and they mostly cause venomous bites. They have a button like a rattle at the end of its tail. If

Cottonmouths are mostly loners so if you observe several snakes together, it is probably not a water moccasin. Young ones have brown or orange crossbands and bright yellow tail while adults have a dark skin with faint dark brown or black crossbands. The inside of the mouth is lined with white cotton like material and their size is 50-55 inches. Cottonmouths symptoms are somewhat similar to those of copperheads that include low blood pressure, shock, change in skin color, immediate pain and muscle weakness.
Copperheads: This snake is reddish in color and typically 18-36 inches long. They are found in swamps, forests and rocky areas in the eastern states as far as Texas. This snake is no aggressive and it mostly bites if someone steps on it or near it. Symptoms of a copperhead bite are as follows: Shock, change in skin color, immediate pain and muscle
