In 1830, after the collapse of Grand Colombia Venezuela along with Ecuador and Colombia were formed. Venezuela is located on the northern coast of South America. It has an area of 352,144 square miles and is bordered by Guyana to the East, Brazil to the South, Colombia to the West, and the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea to the north. Venezuela is divided into four major environmental regions the coastal zone, the Andean mountain range, the plains, and the Guiana Highlands. The capital Caracas, and all the other major cities are located along the coast. The coast is typically the most populated area in the country and is where most of Venezuela's population lives today. One such program is called the “Great Sovereign and Secure Supply Mission, this program is aimed at promoting agricultural, industrial, and pharmaceutical production” in order to win what president Maduro has termed an economic war waged by transnational firms. The aim of this program is to combat the country’s criminal black market economy believed to be driving inflation. “The initiative will also consist of six micro missions dedicated to the production of seeds, animal protein, balanced food, cleaning and personal hygiene products, as well as the regionalizing of school meal menus and the supply of essential medicines.” The president also created a new mining ministry that will oversee the state’s newly expanded role in the exploitation of the country's vast natural resources in the Eastern Amazon. This partnership will be with national and transnational firms for the extraction of gold, iron, diamonds, and coltan. In addition to promoting production and new mining activities, the government has also promised to reduce the production of light and medium oil, increasing the production of heavy oil, slashing imports of goods in order to force the productive sector of the economy to increase output, and have introduced additional capital controls reducing the amount of dollars “Venezuelan travelers can bring out of the country from US $2500 to US $750.” President Maduro recently announced the creation of a new state distribution program for food and medicine tasked with addressing the nation’s chronic
