I believe that veggie libel exists because it’s a way to make a profit out of the customers because there are lots of bad foods that are a label to have some bad chemicals in it and yet people still buy it. Libel means to criticize. Why? Because no one has the gut to say anything about it, otherwise anyone who talks bad about company's food will be sued and treated badly. In reality, the first amendment protects people’s freedom of speech. If someone tries to speak up about how food companies can hurt people they can get sued. Getting sued means that someone, here a company, takes you to a court (Collins, 1998). Some United States food corporations believe that they have the power to sue anyone who talks bad about their product they can take to a court. During 2007-2008 a study claims that 42.2 percent of physicians face a lawsuit. In other words, only 22.4 percent of these physicians get sued twice or more (It's raining liability, n.d). What makes veggie libel law so strong? Almost every Southern US States has veggie libel laws. For example, they exist in Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama and South Dakota.
