At the present time there are about 800 millions vegetarians in the world. Besides, more and more people are becoming vegetarians, even though the others can’t imagine their life without meat. Vegetarianism is partial or complete rejection of food that is animal origin. There are different types of vegetarians, the variety depends on what the person refuses to eat. The most common type are the lacto-ovo-vegetarians, who eat both dairy products and eggs. Less common type are the lacto-vegetarians, who eat dairy products, but avoid eggs. The third type are ovo-vegetarians, who eats eggs, but avoid dairy products. Vegans are the last type of vegetarians, who don’t eat dairy products, eggs, or any other products, which are derived from animals. …show more content…
As I have mentioned before due to their food intake vegetarians avoid diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes (Kelly, 2012). However, it appears that vegetarians are less exposed to cancer. For example, it is believed that one component that can protect us from bowel cancer is fiber, because it partly encourages the growth of a healthy bacterium in the gut. Fruits and vegetables contain a significant amount of fiber. Another component that can protect from cancer are antioxidants. Antioxidants ensure that the processes that occur in cells run smoothly, so the disturbances that can cause cells to change are minimized. In addition to that, eating fruits and vegetables will only lead to a person being of a healthy weight, which means that chances of obesity are reduced. Obesity is one disease, which is very common in modern time due to a vast array of junk food products and brands that exist nowadays taking over the healthy food in stores and shopping malls. Young people are exposed to a problem of obesity, as they tend to eat junk food everywhere. Thus, being a vegetarian will allow people to avoid such diseases, be healthier, …show more content…
Vegetarians tend to have a limited choice of food, which means that they can’t enjoy the whole eating process as much as non-vegetarians. All they can eat is vegetables and fruits, and in some cases fish as well. However, they miss out on delicious BBQ ribs or Angus beef burger, which are extremely tasty and so delicious, that I would never consider becoming a vegetarian (Jones, 2013). The truth is, vegetarians don’t have a great choice of what to eat when going out or even being at home. Sometimes eating delicious, nice food gives you so much satisfaction, and it doesn’t have to be that healthy. Of course, it can be argued that being a vegetarian is not that difficult in the modern world, as nowadays vegetarians can enjoy a vast array of meals due to the fact that there are many vegetarian restaurants and food stalls that provide vegetarian food. In fact, remembering the old days, 20 – 30 years ago, you would hardly ever see a little green v sign on the menu at restaurants or cafes, but fast forward to our days and those v signs are everywhere (Elkin, 2014, July 31). So, all in all, it is not bad being a vegetarian. That said, there is trouble of sameness that vegetarians have to face every time they go out to eat out at a restaurant.
