Vegetarianism Makes its Statement on the World
Vegetarianism has been around since the eighteenth century and was introduced by Christians to the United States in the 1700’s (Iacobbo, Karen, et al. Vegetarian America. Pg 1.) Although everyone has different opinions on whether you should become vegetarian or not, there are luckily an abundant amount of facts and information to help people make up that decision! Being vegetarian is ethically correct because it allows you to be closer and more like God, there are no involvements in animal cruelty and it leads you into a healthier lifestyle.

As the Explorers were traveling during the eleven-week voyage they began to get filled with despair, which led to most of them forsaking the vegetarian values they had always known. At the end of the journey they only had seven children and eleven adults that continued being vegetarians. One of the men traveling, John Wesley, left a quote that would lead the way for people who were trying to put vegetarianism into America. The quote was, “With six Christians I could convert the whole of England.” It took a long time before vegetarianism would spread to people all over the world. The Pilgrims wanted religious freedom and a lot of Christians saw vegetarianism as having a lot of moral value. (Moralization and becoming vegetarian. www.journal.sagepub.com ) They believe that God intended for everyone to be vegetarians because of the Bible verse in Genesis chapter 1 verses 29-30 that states, humans should only eat herbs and vegetables. The pilgrims thought if anyone ate meat then it was a sin. They took a lot of God’s commandments seriously, so when God said “Thou shalt not kill” they believed you shouldn’t kill any living thing on …show more content…
There are numerous types of cooked meals that are delicious and free of meat. Some delicious meals that vegetarians may make are various types of soups, such as almond and mushroom. It is known that a common dish Vegetarians make is a side tray with different vegetables on it. (Thomas, Anna. The Vegetarian Epicure. Pg. 17) A positive side to not eating meat is you don’t have to deal with the greasiness of how some meats are cooked and you won’t catch any diseases from the animal. This is helping your body stay healthy and away from those unsafe possibilities of when you eat meat. Many vegetarians who went from eating meat to no meat say that the transition was a lot smoother than they ever thought it would be. That after you go without having meat for a few weeks your body becomes use to it and you start to crave other things besides what you use to enjoy. It also helps your health by helping the environment. Rich countries are feeding one-third of the nation’s grain making to farm animals while there are people all over the world who are starving. If more people were vegetarian then there wouldn’t be as much grain used for farming animals. The people who are vegetarian now are helping those numbers decrease the best they can. If more people were off a meat-based diet then Western meat-diet eaters wouldn’t use four and a half times more land than is needed for a vegetarian diet. Vegetarian

Roughly 3-4 percent of the U.S. population is vegetarian. Whether or not people should consume meat is a very debated issue. Most people in the world do eat meat, but there is a faction of people who are of the opinion that it is better to live off of a primarily plant based diet. While vegetarianism has many benefits, an omnivorous lifestyle doesn’t have to be detrimental to the environment and can be as healthy as any other diet.. Becoming a vegetarian is more ethical than eating meats. Multitudinous religions do not support the killing of animals for meat or sport as a result of the belief that all life is valuable. If more people become vegetarian, the meat industries will have fewer customers to sell to, so the supply will decline when there is no demand. Large amounts of animals are put through horrible conditions in their cages and often beaten. This is incredibly inhumane, but several people do not care considering they believe animals lives are not as important.…

About 3.2% of the United States is vegetarian, which is equivalent to about 7.3 Americans, according to a Vegetarian Times article written in 2015 on vegetarianism in America. One of these vegetarians is my aunt, Jowell, who I have had the pleasure of conversing with about her reasoning to decide to make such a dramatic change in her diet. There were many things she took into consideration when making this decision, and it came down to her beliefs and what was best for her. Some of her reasons included her compassion for animals, health and weight loss. While I don't like the idea of killing anything, it's the circle of life, and just because you don't eat the meat, people are killing animals anyway, and the meat is just more likely to go to…
