Cultural Project- Veneto I chose Veneto Italy because my great grandfather was from Venice. He has had a heavy impact on my family and I am named after his mother. My great grandfather came to America in the 1950’s, but by then he had already married, and had children. Prior to that he and his family, including my grandmother, lived in Argentina. The lifestyles in Buenos Aries and Italy are very similar, despite their small differences. The hustle and bustle in these cities are parallels and he found he fit in very well in both areas. Today, my great grandfather and my great grandmother both live in Argentina once again. After doing much research on the region of Veneto I have learned that it lies

The one thing they all have in common is the piazza. The piazza is the main focal points for any Italian gatherings or celebrations. Some Italians will have discussions about politics, food, wine or sports; like any American household. In the early mornings many people have not gotten up, but once the sun rises you can see an outpour of venetians heading out to work to begin their day (www.understandingitaly.com). According to www.understandin italian.com they stated that “although Italian is spoken throughout Italy, many of the regions have their own dialects, some totally unrecognizable from standard Italian”, this was quite shocking to me once reading but after thinking about it, I completely understand why. Here in America we have different dialects or ‘accents’ from state to state, so it would make sense if the same occurred in various parts of the world including Italy. Traffic along the canals can get hectic at times and parking can be an issue at times, but the beauty and scenery is worth it. My overall general impression is very good after doing this research. I hope to one day visit Italy and experience all of the amazing things to do there, some of which I have mentioned. I want to pray to the Madonna, enjoy a nice evening in a gondola and smell all of the delicious fragrances and foods in these areas. I hope to visit Venice and see

Italy was once a giant country in 1861, later in the year, Italy was divided into two groups, one being Northern Italy and the other Southern Italy. At this time there were many peasants and farmers in Southern Italy who mainly thrived in Mezzogiorno. “Those Italians who emigrated from the Mezzogiorno were largely of the peasant class of farmers and day laborers called the contadino class. The contadino included agriculture worked who owned a tiny plot of land and leased additional land from the large landowners” (Mindel, 64).…

For my research paper I want to get a better understanding of the treatment of Italian American immigrants during the time between the end of the nineteenth century up to around the time of the end of the Second World War, extending but beyond that if necessary. Through my initial research I've discovered that Italian Americans experienced large amounts of racial discrimination, stereotyping, and struggles of assimilation during this time. I want to understand why this discrimination occurred, and what changed to where Italians become a much more accepted group in the United States, even so much as earning the title of "white?" I'm interested to discover how Anti-Italian sentiment rose and feel in pre-war, wartime, and post-war America. I also want to understand how Italian Americans create a racial identity for themselves after they…

I loved moving. You would think that packing my belongings and meeting new people would make you hate moving, but for me that wasn’t the case. Changing environments was great for me; I loved being able to meet different people and trying new activities each time. In the beginning this was not the life I envisioned for myself. I saw myself always living on the island, going to college there, and maybe traveling around the world, but always going back home.…

I am an alien, an Italian immigrant who first learned how to change when he was eleven years of age. I'm going to start off by saying that in Italy there is a scarcity of change, making personal development seldom welcomed. People remain in the same socioeconomic class as their parents; the son of a butcher is destined to become a butcher himself. People rarely change houses or move to new cities; a person is expected to live and die in the same small town. People are afraid to embark on new culinary journeys; an Italian is taught to only eat Italian foods, no exceptions.…

One of the events in his narrative brings us to an Italy where Lorenzon is rarely present—an Italy where all of the adversities that fail to touch Lorenzo in his bubble persevere. On a ride in Rome, Niccolo places different elements of a failing Italy in front of Lorenzo’s eyes to taunt him. On this car ride, Lorenzo encounters a Lazio supporter which symbolizes a Facist reaction towards the government. Dirty cobble stones are also a representation of the Italian governement’s failure to improve the sanitary conditions of public areas. However, the most striking event that signifies a collapsing Italy is the confrontation between Lorenzo’s mother and Teodoro.…
