Becoming vegan can go way beyond animal rights and a cruelty-free lifestyle. Following a healthy, balanced vegan diet ensures a host of health benefits as well as prevention of some of the major diseases striking people in North America. Many people might say that not consuming any animal products is bad for you, but reducing the amount is actually better for you and your health. There are many health benefits to becoming vegan, for example, it prevents diseases, you reduce saturated fats, and you get the right amount of protein when you eat the right things. When you eat the right things, your body is also physically healthier because of your body mass index, weight loss, and you have more energy too. It is important to know that the certain things you eat can actually harm your body. Eating a healthy vegan diet has shown to prevent a number of diseases. You can prevent diseases just by switching to a healthy and balanced vegan diet. For example, when you eat meat, it hardens your blood vessels. A compound found in red meat and even used as an additive in some energy drinks, called carnitine has been found to cause atherosclerosis, the hardening or clogging of the arteries, according to a study published in the journal Nature Medicine. Researchers found that increased carnitine levels predicted increased risks for cardiovascular disease which effects your heart. Maintaining a vegan diet also allows you to have a longer healthier life. When you eat healthier protein sources such as nuts, legumes, and even tofu, it lowers your risk of mortality. Most Americans assume that it is good to obtain high amounts of protein, but the average American consumes too much protein. It is possible to eat too much protein, “The paradox of protein is that it is not only essential but also potentially health-destroying,” wrote Dr. Morter in Your Health, Your Choice, “Cells overburdened with protein become toxic.” The average American needs about 46-56 grams of protein per day, but as of today, Americans are consuming 90 grams of protein per day which can lead to gaining weight, extra body fat, stress on kidneys, and dehydration. …show more content…

When you do eat the right things when you transition into a vegan if benefits your body mass index, every, skin, body odor, and even allergies etc. Several population studies show that a diet without meat leads to lower BMIs–usually an indicator of a healthy weight and lack of fat on the body. Also, when you follow a vegan diet, you will observe that your energy lasts much longer. The nuts and vitamins A and E from vegetables play a big role in healthy skin, so vegans will usually have good skin health. Many people who switch to a vegan diet will notice a remarkable reduction in blemishes as well.
