For this assignment, I attended a Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) chili cook off event followed by a student dance. This event was held at Eastern Randolph high school in Ramseur, North Carolina. This is a small school surrounded primarily by agriculture and Ramseur is a small town of less than 2,000. The community members are mostly alumni of the school and have had generations attend Eastern. Because of this connection, the community is big supporters of school athletic events and other performances.…
It is a great pleasure to recommend Rachel Sitasz for admission to the Edward Hospital Student Volunteer Program. She is one of the most empathetic, kind, and exceptional humans I have encountered in my 14 years of teaching. I teach Rachel in my 8th grade advanced ELA class. Her academics, character, innate curiosity, intrinsic motivation, ethical standards, and unwavering desire to give back, have put Rachel in a class of her own. In fact, for the first time in over 25+ years, the eighth-grade team created a brand new end-of-the-year award for our graduation awards assembly.…
This letter offers my complete support of Anniesha Parillon in DeVry Education Group Scholarship opportunity. I have known Ms. Parillon since winter of 2010, where we worked collaboratively at Stanley M. Isaacs Afterschool program and TASC Americorp. As colleagues, we worked closely and collaborated on a variety of assignments, activities and daily lessons for our students through the implication of STEM. In my capacity of working with Anniesha, she has been professional and has contributed an immense amount to the well-being and education of the students she has worked with.…
Tania Breaux is a woman who is devoted to uplifting and promoting education among minority youth. Having matriculated at Southern University in Baton Rouge where she earned a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Mass Communication, she took her love of learning and volunteered abroad teaching a native group in Mexico, whose first language is Nauatle, English through speaking a common language of Spanish. A few years after graduating SUBR, Tania worked as an educator dispensing knowledge about life, learning, and health to high school students in a low- income area. During this time she saw a serious need to enhance and expose the students awareness about the world beyond their town.…
Seated on the plane to Beijing, I was thinking all the way on what I did through the past year. My mind went back to the time when my friends and I worked together for Chinese orphans by creating a club. With 100 dollars from donation, I asked several classmates to help me set up a club called ‘Bring Me Hope Club’ to cooperate with a global NGO: Bring Me Hope, to raise money for Chinese orphans and build long-term personal one-to-one relationships with them.…
Imagine smiling children prospering and being educated because of the donation that could fund the school. The Delaware Valley School District does whatever it can for the students. But, it can only go so far without a donation from Precision Glass Co. Donating to this district will help students economically, athletically, and academically.…
Since Tim Apodaca’s arrival at Highland Park as a teacher (he's also a graduate of HP) I've seen him strive every day to improve his pedagogy, curriculum, and techniques- almost to a fault. His natural, easy rapport with students combined with his unrivaled knowledge of his subject area (He was the lead mechanic for this school district for ten years, maintain 501’s fleet of vehicles!)-make him a standout in the classroom as an educator. What makes him distinguished, however, is his constant quest to improve himself as a professional. Not a day goes by that Tim doesn't stop by my room (To be fair, he is next door to me!)…
Personal Statement Growing up in my native country, Haiti, I always had an increasingly sense of helping others. My high school years were characterized by a train of efforts in order to help fight the scourge of illiteracy. After my High School I enrolled at the State University of Haiti where I earned a double major in Communication and Economics Sciences. My first job was in the field of Communication. The Non Profit Organization I used to work for had a specific mission to shoot documentaries about the physical and educational needs of some schools in the country and send them to some prestigious international philanthropic organizations to collect funds.…
At the corner of Walker St. and Crescent St., across the road from Walker Jr. High School, passed La Palma Hospital, lies the largest campus of Anaheim Union High School District, John F. Kennedy (JFK) High School. From the parking lot into the school, I see Kennedy ’s quote, painted on the edge of the entrance, stating, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Many other quotes by graduating classes were painted on the edge of the hallway overheads with the year underneath and all meant to inspire people. Tall, lush trees provide shade, protecting me from sunshine and heat of the afternoon sunlight.…
Dreams are shaped by ideals as families shape the beliefs we grasp strongly. The sacrifices and struggles of my family are what have shaped me to be the person I am today, therefore I have dedicated my path as a first generation Hispanic student to my family. My family and I were born in Guadalajara, Mexico. After three and a half years of living there, my family decided to seek a promising future in The United States.…
Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are a co-curricular and integral part of many CTE programs. CTSO programs compliment CTE courses and are student-centered clubs, which provide unique opportunities for participants to explore careers and develop their leadership skills. Well known CTSO programs include DECA (business & marketing), FFA (agriculture) and HOSA (health occupations) to name a few. Every CTSO has some competition elements, which enriches the classroom experience as students take what they learned in class and compete in various events tailored to their particular CTE industry. Through their respective organizations, students have a change to compete with students from all over the world and usually get to travel…
I decided that I would take leadership roles throughout high school in order to help serve the less fortunate. KEY Club, a service and fundraising club, became my focus, and I travelled up the ranks to become the school’s external affairs manager and the service committee chair of the Eastern Canada District. As I introduced more extra-curricular activities into my life, organization became more important -- and I was shocked to see how much it helped me save…
15 March 2003 was the greatest day of my life when my parents and I migrated to U.S.A from India. Like many other immigrants around the world, this was a dream come true for me and my family. However, after a year, I decided to join the U.S Navy to enhance and accelerate my life. I was a Hospital Man Corpsman in the Navy and had the best job in the world.…
The most pressing issue affecting public education today is the lack of funding. Unfortunately, funding dictates the majority of decisions that are made in education. Through funding, students can explore many potential career paths through a wide-offering of courses. Providing our students with proper materials and a safe, comfortable place to learn is highly linked to student success. Retaining and recruiting highly qualified teachers is a main focus of budgets at the local, state, and national levels.…
