Vast Age Differences In High Schools

Decent Essays
The youth group I attend consists of kids from a vast age difference. There are children from sixth grade to twelfth grade. I know that sometimes this age difference leads to mass chaos and frustration, but where I attend, that is nowhere to be found. For the past 5 years I have went here, and created long lasting friendships with kids of all ages, and I strive to maintain these friendships throughout the years. I remember my freshman year in high school, the seniors that went to the youth group would always stop me in the halls and see how I was doing. This was always my favorite part of the day because I felt welcomed in a place that was intimidating. Now as I am one of the older kids, I make sure I do this to all of the younger kids as well.

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

INTRODUCTION Race relations in America has always been exceptionally antagonistic, as compared to other nations (Myrdal, 1944). The disproportional number of minorities, especially Blacks, being involved in the criminal justice system, has often been highlighted to indicate the level of racial tension in the country. In the 1970s, however, findings regarding the disproportional distribution of school punishment among Black students (see Child Defense Fund, 1975), pointed out to the fact that racial disparities and tensions are not restricted to the criminal justice system alone, rather schools too are influenced by them. Since the report in 1975, a number of researchers have attempted to study the link between race and school punishments…

It is a universal truth that children envy adults and adults envy children. What is ironic is they are both right. When transitioning from childhood to adulthood, a child has to leave his or her carefree world behind to take on the real world. There are many similarities between these two stages of life such as the continuous desire to learn and the necessity of friendship. The differences outweigh the similarities though, including the difficulties of aging, the burden of responsibilities, and the troubles of decision making.…
