Historical Narrative I am Cacique Careta, and Vasco Nunez de Balboa and my tribe were allied. When Vasco Nunez de Balboa arrived at my village, I was sleeping since it was night time. I woke up from the noise of Balboa’s troops. Balboa had noticed the Spaniards that we had been taking care of that had been left in my village from other explorations. Balboa acknowledged our kindness to the Spaniards and quickly attempted to befriend me and my people.
I was soon baptized as Christian and got the name Don Fernando to form an alliance with Balboa and the Spaniards. I married my daughter, Anayansi, to Vasco Nunez de Balboa to secure our alliance and friendship. He treated my daughter very well, as she helped secure the friendship between Balboa
