Most students studying a tertiary level of education can be found to have one of four possible learning styles as expressed by the VARK system of learning preferences. The four learning styles represented by the VARK system are; Visual, Audible, Read/Written, and Kinesthetic. A 15 question questionnaire was handed out to, and completed by 100 university students studying at the University of the Sunshine Coast to determine whether there was a correlation between area of study and their learning preferences. Results show that the most learning style most prominent was read/write, followed by visual, and an audible style of learning was the least preferred style among the majority of schools.

The questions regarding learning strategies were presented in a Likert scale survey tool, where the participants were to answer within a scale of 1 – 5, in which 1 was “Never”, and 5 was “Always”. With the information provided in the questionnaire, the aim of this scientific report is to discover if specific study strategies are seen as favorable to specific schools.
Results:
Table 1 – Results of the questionnaire showing question number, learning style, and school of study Table 1 displays the results of the Likert questions in the questionnaire. Each of the 11 questions are a representation of one or two of the learning preferences among students. The average result of each question is represented by red colour if that style was 3 and therefore preferred.
Table 2 – Resultant score of learning style in comparison to school of study Table 2 shows the resultant score (displayed by percentage out of 100) after grouping each question by the learning style represented and finding the average result. The higher the result, the greater the preference. Figure 1 is a visual representation of the results found in Table 2.
