A criminal defense attorney represents individuals who are charged with a crime. The crime can vary from a felony to a misdemeanor. The punishment for the crimes varies from community service, probation, fines, and/or prison. Having representation for a criminal proceeding is vital for anyone being charged with a crime. The U.S. Constitution guarantees that any individual charged for a crime is provided legal representation. All lawyers are part of the legal profession, representation for clients, an officer in the legal system, and public citizens with obligations for justice. A lawyer acts as an advisor, an advocate a negotiator, and an evaluator, as well as being a neutral third-party (Florida Supreme Court, 2015).
