Five year old Tommy is experiencing some signs and symptoms. His mother reports the subjective signs and symptoms. He has a runny nose that has been going on for about 1 week. This is accompanied by nose scores, blisters, and scabs that are seeping. The mother is concerned as the lesions have spread to his forearm. Tommy has been febrile with an unremarkable medical and family history. Upon examination, he has purulent rhinorrhea, lesions that are about 05 to 1 cm, and no lymphadenopathy. These lesions are located on the mouth, nose, and the right radial forearm. With all of these signs and symptoms, Tommy has varicella zoster virus (VZV).
