As a student, I always lacked strong self-efficiency. I would always doubt myself, and would never be certain that I could get anything done, however, this all changed when I got the opportunity to work with my church youth group. We were given a task to build a shelter home in Chetumal, Mexico. Our youth leader told us that we had three weeks to build it, and this made me doubt that we would get it done in time, considering that we only had 18 people. I was unfamiliar with the process of choosing the order of courses that would transition me to graduation. As a result, I took several non-required courses, and I even took some of the needed courses, for my degree, out of order. Needless to say, I hit an academic wall that lasted five long semesters. My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. In reading, I would just read instead of looking up the difficult word or using context clues to figure out what the word means. Now during my reading I annotate and look up unknown vocabulary words.
