To get to the famous tree with the single word carved into it, the family had to go through the woods. As they were walking, the youngest fell a cool breeze on the cloudy day, and walked towards it. When the gust ended, he looked up and saw the tree, with the name of the Indian tribe that once lived there. At the bottom of the timber was a loose piece of bark. As he pulled it away, he could see the other part of the forest. He saw a young Indian boy running through the woods with a shining cup, maybe silver. Then he saw a burning village, with men, women, and children of all sizes running out of burning huts. He saw fights, meetings, and then, that young boy, just a little older, carving the word, Croatoan into the tree, and then he was back. He could hear his family, and rustling of leaves, but all he could think about was what he just saw. He looked to his left and saw that Indian boy, and as he sat there, he could see the sadness and torment in the eyes of that child.
