On Wednesday, March 23 I had an interview with Vanessa Kraps, the head librarian at Ohio State Mansfield. She has an extensive background of special skills and training which include a Master’s degree in library and information sciences, a bachelor degree in psychology, and an internship. It was very interesting to learn that to be a librarian you need to have a master’s degree. Her job includes many different roles with helping faculty and students with the research process. Some ways she helps faculty is she assists or find resources to give to their class. She also teaches a class for the faculty members students on how to look up resources. Librarian Kraps can also help faculty by creating a special catalog that goes along with the class on carmen under the library section in that class. With students, she can help them a little more than the faculty. With the student, she can help them find resources, teach them how to find resources that fit the requirements for their class and understand any information they are seeking. By information seeking she said “I can help them find anything from resources to the closest restaurant. Information …show more content…
In order to access both of those parts you have to go to Bromfield Library webpage. She believes it is very important for students to know how many different resources students have available to them, such as databases that are paid for through the school. The “my record” page is also very important because you can view what you have out and when it is due back. Checking that page will also help avoid any fees and allow you to view fees if you get them. There has been many times I have had late fees at my city library because I lost the paper with the due date. Having a “my record” would of allowed me to check online and return the item on time and avoid late

Prior to reading Chapter 1 and “At Sea in a Deluge of Data”, I realized how elementary my definition of information literacy was. I believed information literacy was the ability to find information using a variety of research methods. So, you can imagine reading the definition was surprising, yet the definition seemed simplistic. Per our course text, “Information literacy is the ability to identify a need for information and successfully locate, evaluate, and use that information ethically and legally for a determined purpose”.…

On my first day as the new law library intern I was very nervous to say the least. Ms. Carol assured me that I would be fine and it would take time for me to know the “ends and outs” of the library. Shortly after I arrived Ms. Carol gave me a tour of the library. She showed me specifically how to work the printer, where the office supplies were located, and most importantly the catalog notebook. In my opinion, the catalog notebook will become an important resource for me to be able to assist patrons on the appropriate legal documents that they may need.…

With this metaphor of comparing information to stormy seas, Carr shows his audience the negative effects of information. Anyone can drive a few miles and find a body of water. Information is so accessible that it can consume anyone. Many people drown their time in looking up shows, movies, places when surfing the internet. At the same time, however, information can be so dense that people do not want to tire themselves trying to decipher huge amounts of knowledge.…

The hiring committee (myself, Devin and Nancy) recommend Research and Learning Services offer the Reference Assistant position to Alisah Hilt. Alisah demonstrated clear knowledge and interest in the research process and has experience at a Reference Desk, which along with her experience as student supervisor through her current position at Seattle Pacific University Library, made her our first choice. Her references both discussed her aptitude at the Reference Interview & referrals (her experience with “territorial librarians” was noted, as was her ability to be proactive and forward thinking without “going rogue”.)…

Few people are given a greater number of hardships than others. How people deal with their circumstances can differ contingent on how everyone around them impacts them. Makerspaces Makerspaces allow libraries to offer their patrons innovating technology like 3D printers, sewing machines, coding, and robotics that was not previously and readily assessable. Additionally, makerspaces promote lifelong learning in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical field. For example, libraries whether public, school, or academic are increasingly embracing makerspaces. Makerspaces offer the community a place where patrons can learn through interactive classes and provide advanced technology to a wide range of demographics, especially low-income patrons and minorities. I love how makerspaces are positively impacting their local community and how they help foster a new-found interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in young kids or even adults.…

Victoria Crowe’s portrait of former Principal and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Brian Lang completed in 2008 serves as a tribute to the life-long academic whom, during his time as principal, expanded and led the University into the twenty-first century. In a portrait style distinctive from the rest of the University’s portrait collection, Crowe adheres to her professed commitment in portraiture to represent, “a balance between the personality of the sitter, a sense of what they are, revealed through work and conversation, and the objective reality of ‘what they look like’…” Lang is depicted in a medium sized – in comparison to other portraits in the Universities Collection – 50 by 40-inch portrait casually sat leaning backward with his legs crossed…

The Walter Royal Davis Library is the central library for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, it is the primary resource for all students, and was completed in February of 1984. Around this time, the Wilson Library was closed for renovations. This led to a transition for thousands of students who relied every day on the vast wealth of information that, at the present time, was only available through a library. These changes brought upon difficulties for the university employees, the students and faculty requiring library resources, and student relations, specifically between undergraduate and graduate students. These issues would ultimately be resolved and shape the future of the Davis Library, which is still a major part of the…
