Research Paper: Vancouver, Canada Vancouver province British Colombia, Canada is a picturesque port city located on the far west portion of the Fraser River delta. Known for its temperate climate and natural beauty, Vancouver is considering one of the friendliest cities with citizens taking great pride in keeping the region clean and safe. It is the westernmost of Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories with Vancouver’s metro area consisting of 21 municipals. Modern west coast city rich in culture with energetic nightlife and restaurant scene, Vancouver is becoming one of America’s premier travel destinations. This paper will discuss the regions demographics and ethnic composition, political structure, and social issues impacting the city.
Based on Statistics Canada (Table 1) there was dramatic change of population in 2011 increased, but in 2006 were less people living because of the popularity of Vancouver. Vancouver is British Colombia largest city with a population of just over 2,313,328 representing a percentage change of 9.3% and growing making it Canada's 3rd largest city and its economy ranks 9th among all international cities. In crisis, a 24.5 million dollar welcome facility was just completed with 138 residential units, job assistance and will eventually include behavioral health and medical services. Chris Friesen of Immigrant Services Society of BC adds, “In this facility we have brought everything that a new immigrant or refugee would require for their first few months in the country.” This new facility and other recent initiatives provide assistance to many people from different cultures to help them adjust to living in a different
