Depression is when something causes grief, extreme sadness, and low self-esteem to a person (Carlson 3).The symptoms to depression can cause a person to be anxious, personal hygiene, loss of interest in food, empty feelings, insomnia, and irritable mood (26). The worst of it are thoughts of death, self-harm, attempted suicide, and even possibly suicide (26). Some of the physical obstacles for Van Gogh were epileptic seizures (Hammacher 250). He was not known to the public and became forgetful (250). The effects on him were hallucinations, thoughts of death, and eating his paint (50). Van Gogh was not a social person he kept to himself, made rash choices to others, and was moody around other people (250). Van Gogh had multiple mental breakdowns, and he wanted to die (250).
Van Gogh overcame his disability by using it to advantage and used his emotions to paint out what he was feeling (Hammacher 251) Van Gogh was famous because of his talents towards painting (43). He was also famous for getting in a fight with a fellow painter and cutting off his own ear, only then to give it to his lover (43). One of Van Gogh’s many accomplishments is getting The Starry Night painting put up at the Louvre museum in France (100). Even though Van Gogh had done many things to almost get himself killed, he lived long enough to know people took an interest in his art
