Vampire Suicide vs Human Suicide, is it the Same Thing?
This semester we were assigned three novels and as a final assignment we were to determine if the characters in “The Night Wanderer” were the same when their thoughts were about committing suicide. Suicide is when someone hits their all-time low and does not know what else to do so they take their own lives to end all the hurt they feel. Tiffany Hunter is a teenage girl that was dealing with a lot of different things such as her mother leaving her, fitting in with her boyfriend, her father’s rules and finally losing her friends. Pierre is an old vampire trapped teenage body. He was turned when he left home with Europeans to experience another life but then caught the tuberculosis disease and was turned by another vampire before he died and has lived ever since. The story starts with Pierre returning to his home to end his life after many years and ends when he talks Tiffany out of ending her own life. But, are the situations the same? Is Pierre taking his life the same as Tiffany taking her own if he is a vampire? Tiffany hits her breaking when she leaves her home after an altercation with her father. In my opinion, Pierre is killing himself and just because he has lived for many years does not mean he is dead. Pierre could have died the night he turned instead he fed and became a mystical creature, a vampire. Pierre was so young when he turned that I think he wanted to experience a full exciting life time.
