Values are similar to the colors of the rainbow. Each very different, but they all have a purpose. To help to create better people. In all the stories that have been read this quarter, many values have shown through on many occasions. Out of the values, three constant ones that were clear as day were kindness, loyalty, and selflessness. The stories that will be used are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Abuela Invents the Zero by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. All these stories have an undertone that anyone can learn from. Values others can use affect anyone or everyone. All people contribute to an ever-growing world, and others actions can impact the world positively or negatively. It all comes done to …show more content…
Tom Sawyer may be more a role model than he is taken for. Ever thought about that? By reading the first few chapters of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, it is known that Tom Sawyer is a mischievous boy. A boy who pays people to do work, runs away on a “vacation”, and who is always causing trouble. But there is a softer side of him, a side of pure intentions. The book Little Women is a perfect example. The March sisters are a poor family living during the civil war. Marmee and the girls are left to fend for themselves while their father is at war. These girls have learned at a young age what it is like to have to cherish everything they have. But they are selfless in every way. At the beginning of the excerpt, the girls what to give presents to Marmee on Christmas. They have little money but plan to spend it all on her. Well, all except Amy. But she comes through. People are more mindful of themselves and plan to buy Christmas gifts for themselves. With what little they have they want to give a gift for their mother with the money they have. Not only did they give up their money, but they gave up their only Christmas breakfast as well. In the book it Marmee tells the girls as they are just going to start their breakfast that “Not far away from here lies a poor woman with a little newborn. Six children are huddled into one bed to keep from freezing, for they have no fire.” This family is in worse condition than the March girls. Marmee continues saying “There is nothing to eat over there, and the oldest boy came to tell me they were suffering from hunger and cold.” She asked the girls to give up their breakfast for the small children and the answer was a unanimous yes.
