As Rainsford states “OFF THERE to the right--somewhere--is a large island, said Whitney. It's rather a mystery” This quote states that the island is mysterious.…

In Richard Connell's story “The Most Dangerous Game”, the setting is the most essential part of the passage. Meaning that the setting needs to be on an island. In order for general zaroff to do what he does best, he would have to be located on an island. General Zaroff specifically moved to an island for many reasons, one being that the island is the only place where he can kill the most dangerous game. As General Zaroff shows Rainsford how he catches his prey “Rainsford saw a flash of lights…’they indicate a channel’ says General Zaroff.…

The character of General Zaroff is first developed as a very hospitable and caring person, but then Connell introduces the real reason that Zaroff acts the way he is. Connell introduces Zaroff as a nice person. This is shown on page 1 where the text states, “Follow Ivan, if you please, Mr. Rainsford," said the general. "I was about to have my dinner when you came. In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, his character General Zaroff can be portrayed as many things; mature, experienced, schooled, and suave. Traits such as these define Zaroff to be a civilized person especially when he is polite, and retains a dignified social stance. Even though the game he created is built around hunting people, his personality is indeed a civilized one. The well-mannered nature of Zaroff allowed Rainsford to get all the necessities and luxuries that he would want for a night.…

General Zaroff from " The most dangerous game" is a very disturbing character. One way to describe his disturbing personality is how cunning he is. For example, when Zaroff shows his hospitality towards Rainsford to only kill Rainsford in a cruel game of hunting. Not only is Zaroff extremely cunning, but also very inhumane, another unsettling trait about Zaroff. General Zaroff lures people to Ship-Trap island, giving them a place to stay, and rest at his home.…

The values of all human beings are different. There are different variations or sides of the same values or completely contradicting views. Lord Chesterfield, an eighteenth century author wrote a letter to his son who was traveling far from him. Lord Chesterfield carefully uses the rhetorical strategies of ethos, pathos, and logos to describe his values of loyalty, directness and conformity. Lord Chesterfield expresses his value of loyalty quite obviously in this letter.…

Values are something all people posses, some people live by them, others just make them up on the fly. Values are something all people learn to appreciate. What does one do with those values when a conflict arises? Most people like to think they follow them at all times, even if it is in a stressful situation, but that is not always the case. In “Shooting An Elephant” and “Singing Silence” both characters have values that are dealt with in different ways more so than similar.…

Nevertheless, his pride and lifestyle has made a killer out of him and with it all sense of humanity. The thing that got my attention about General Zaroff is his complex personality and his superficial charm. He appears like a cultivated and legitimate noble man when he welcomes Rainsford with food and "held out his hand to welcome Rainsford", yet when he starts to recount his story you discover how ruthless his personality is. He uses the island to take wrecked travelers into his house to encourage them and give them a place to…

Antigone is considered to be the most well rounded story when it comes to containing all four values discussed at the beginning of this paper. Antigone has roles as a sibling and a leader.…
