Values And Ethics In Social Work

I believe there is one example of how I have aligned the values and ethics of the social work profession to a practice life experience. This past summer I was a camp counselor at Dickson Valley Camp. It was such a great experience because I got to work with children. One thing I love about camp is that the children have the opportunity to not only learn activity skills like swimming, climbing, and archery, but they get to learn about life skills like patience, creativity, and compassion. During my time as a camp counselor, I had to deal with many conflicts between campers. For example, I had a small group of children that consisted of two sisters. These two sisters where complete opposite of each other. One of the sister was more of a tomboy and the other was more of a girly girl. However, they were both strong, intelligent, and stubborn sisters. It was great getting to know these girls because they were both individually funny and they loved to ask questions about God. Nonetheless, these sisters could not agree on anything and they would continue to fight. It was very difficult for me as a camp counselor because I had great relationships with each sister. However, I knew I needed to step in, not only for their relationship at camp, but for their bond as sisters in …show more content…
Social justice is the view that everyone has equal opportunity in economic, political and social rights, and so social workers goals are to help everyone achieve those same opportunities. I have not had the opportunity to help others in issues of poverty, unemployment, discrimination, and other forms of social injustice. However, I believe in my future social worker career I will begin to incorporate social justice in my life because I want to work in child welfare. Therefore, in my future career in child fare I will have the chance to support and protect the risk of future harm to

As a small girl in foster care I saw social workers as powerful people who were able to impact my life in both positive and negative ways. I knew I wanted to become one of them but it wasn’t until I became an adult that I truly understand what the job entailed. Because I married and had children very young, I didn’t start college until I was in my early 30’s. My view of social work was not yet clear…

The social work profession is to infuse change into the lives of individuals and into the community to reduce or eradicate the ill effects of personal distress and social inequality (Cox, Long, & Tice, 2016). Social workers are constantly working on brooding their horizons, by learning on the job or continuing education. Social work has seven values, some of which are grouped together, “dignity and worth of person, competence, importance of human relationships, integrity, human services, and social justice” (Code of Ethics, 2011). In the 2016 election Trump promised to deport all “illegals,” many to a country that they have never seen.…

#1 A. Social work is a value based practice and employs a two pronged approach. The juggling act, as it were, in social work is a 100 year old debate exploring if the goal of social work is that of seeking social reform or focusing on treating the individual. (Haynes, 1998) All the while seeking to do what is “good and desirable” (Bisman, C., 2004)…

In the field of social work, we are faced with ethical dilemmas, more often than not. These dilemmas can come from conflicts with certain social work ethics and standards such as the right to self-determination, dual relationships, or confidentiality. A social worker can even face an ethical dilemma from a conflict of morals and values that they may have with their client. I will be examining an ethical dilemma that intersects both morals and values and confidentiality. Let’s say for example a social worker has an 18 year old client who is pregnant, still living with their parents and seeking an abortion.…

To me, social justice is a concept that encompasses a vision of universal freedom for all, regardless of nationality, race, gender and religion. When you strip away the geographical borders, social structures and economic boundaries, it becomes obvious that we are all human, no more and no less. While we all have individual rights, we all have collective responsibility to ensure that these liberties are extended to all. I joined the various social justice clubs at my school in order to gain insight into the injustices occurring around the globe whilst playing my part in ending social inequalities. As a young child I enthusiastically spent countless hours reading an atlas and gaining a deeper understanding of the global community.…

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics is a set of guidelines that social workers are expected to practice while working. There is a lot to know and follow when pursuing a career as a social worker. Most of the standards are typically self-explanatory. There are six ethical values and principles that are broadly used as a basis of “service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity and competence.” (Workers, 2008, p.3).…
