Imagine you are sitting in your home one evening. Your roommate has gone out of town for the week and there is no one else around. To start the evening you begin by watching television, then completing simple tasks to make the time pass. You head upstairs to your bedroom and proceed to put on sweatpants and climb into bed. You then set the alarm, turn off the lamp, and crawl into bed. To your surprise, you hear a crash and the sound of the door slowly opening. What would you do in this situation? Are you going to confront them even though you are alone? Well in all reality, you stuck exactly where you are and there is nothing you can do but hide and be as quiet as possible, hoping that they leave and cause you no harm. If this were to happen at my house, This scenario would have a much different outcome. For starters I would retrieve my 12-gage shotgun from the safe in my room, or any firearm scattered through my dwelling and start me venture downstairs to see what is going on. As soon as a perpetrator saw a rifle pointed in their direction, I believe any slightly sane human would turn and run without thinking twice about sticking around any longer.
