This is a life that does not portray greed for anything or trying to outdo others in wealth and power among other things. Simplicity is also manifested in the created things as observed in the monkey story in chapter 1. This aspect comes from the interdependence between living things. This trait of valuing creation proceeds to the non-living things. For instance, the monkeys clap their hands as a sign of happiness and appreciation for the kindness of the flowing stream around the mountain. This is because the same water has allowed trees to bear edible fruits eaten by monkeys and baboons and the same water shows kindness by quenching the thirst of the monkeys (Wu and Jenny, n.p). The monkeys are not forced to pay anything and none of the primary producers such as growing plants or water have pride in supporting life. This is an aspect that demonstrates humbleness in life like the way water and crops support the life of monkeys on top of the mountains. In correlation to simplicity, the monkey king demonstrates the need for being a trustworthy person as exhibited in the Tao principle. The Tao principle indicated an instance whereby people who wish to be a leader or rather leading others must have something to make people trust him/her. A good example of this situation was shown in the Tao principle when it people whereby the majority people were believed to be content if only they got firearms for protection and food from the leader. Unity has been explored as a basic thing in embracing the value of life. Unity is an important principle in Tao. This aspect requires people to have trust in what is good, and the only way is to be in a position to distinguish between good and bad things. Unity in the monkey story avoids pride, hatred, and all kind of competition. For instance, the monkeys are not proud because they can jump from one tree to another. They go ahead to unite and befriend other animals like gibbons, baboons, and those that cannot climb trees such as wolves. On the other hand, simplicity is demonstrated by relating well to all forms of creation. This entails other animals, water, light, and cash crops. Water from the flowing stream is not proud because it quenches the thirst of the monkeys and other animals. This is a sign of simplicity where each one or everything is perceived as something that has value. That is why shrubs are not proud because of providing ready food for monkeys and other animals. Living a simple life by being humble promotes harmony. Besides being humble, kind, and showing compassion enables the monkeys and other animals to live in harmony regardless of their
