In the 21st century, ensuring and increasing individual access to higher education is not only a moral imperative but also an economic necessity. As competition increases, it is critical that higher education provides high quality and satisfaction creating services. As the employment opportunities continue to reduce in the United States, both the individual and national, global economic competitiveness should develop the “21st-century skills.” However, higher education offers more benefits than just the high-paying jobs (Armellini, Howe, & Coulson, 2014). The government’s need to raise the standards of living has seen higher education being promoted further. Therefore, this paper seeks to explain the value of higher education to today’s society. …show more content…
Critical thinking must not be viewed as an isolated goal of higher education. Rather, it is described as a fundamental goal of higher education that also facilitates success in higher education. For example, learners who learn how to think critically and become highly adept in scientific, historical thinking. It has enhanced the development of abilities, skills, and values that are essential to success in everyday life (Gerstein & Friedman, 2016). Critical thinking is curriculum based in higher education, and it helps the instructors to assist their learners in mastering the curriculum at higher levels. Using a long-term approach to improving critical thinking, faculty internalizes and apply basic critical thinking at the deeper level (Armellini, Howe, & Coulson, 2014). Faculty restructures courses so that learners can develop can grow as inquisitive and disciplined thinkers and have questioning minds. First, a student understands the primary principles and then engages in self-monitored, self-evaluative practice continually upgrading their skills and understanding. I have realized that critical thinking is not only one of the many higher education goals, but it is a method of teaching and learning at higher effectiveness. I have learned to use the trends to support a high level of thinking. Higher education curriculum includes learning activities that promote teamwork and group work, which increases individual teamwork skills (Hoidn & Kärkkäinen, 2014). Teamwork enhances the creating of good working relationship that is helpful in career and professional development. Organization leaders working teams tend to achieve higher levels of success and work output. Availability of learning designs that require to include students’ teams in learning has led to the development of teamwork. Student-centered groups promote in-depth learning activities through interaction procedures, dialogue cooperation or collaboration. Developing this skill helps in to avoid the completion that is present in the job
