Value Of America

According to "dictionary.com" a value is "A person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life.” Values have been passed on through generations. When the Constitution was written by our founding fathers we most valued our Freedom. This was then passed down which allowed for one to have the opportunity to obtain a successful lifestyle. These values passed down through several generations make up an American. Americans cherish a variety of values they possess in life.
Opportunity is greatly valued by Americans. America offers bright opportunities to one, "Either you will go through this door or you will not go through." (Rich). One can take the chance for a hopeful life in America and hope for the best. America welcomes immigrants to a life full of opportunities; they just have to walk through the door. "From her beacon-hand Glows world wide-wide welcome; her mild eyes command..." (Lazarus). One who is promoted to a higher ranking can indicate a development to a successful life. Hard work leads to promotion. “Father wanted to celebrate… The promotion not only brought a higher salary but was also a tremendous boost to his pride.” (Namioka). Americans value a successful way of life because they want to provide the best future for their children and open up as many opportunities they can. Attaining a good life makes one happy “...a house he owns out of what he considers the city, a safe place far removed from tenement living.” (Santini).
